Indien - Nepal - Indien

Namaste my dear people, the past 4 weeks i was able to witness once again outstanding experiences - time to share them a little with you.

Starting from the ashram, in Madurai (south of India), I went by Bus for a pitstop to Pondicherry along the east coast, a little french influenced town. Staying for only a few days, I took a ride towards Chennai then to catch a flight via Delhi to Kathmandu/Nepal, where i met a fellow student of mine from Amsterdam, Aniek, to go on a hiking trip. We went for the "Lang Tank Trek" in the north of the country and made our way along a monsoon-water filled river. We were quite lucky with the weather conditions, facing sun while walking in the morning until early afternoon, the time when we reached our place to stay for the night and mostly the time when the rain came. Despite countless clouds, we were able to enjoy the green surroundings, massively filled rivers, spotted a few Yaks (cow-like hairy animals) as well as the tops of the Himalaya's - a simply stunning view!
After that 7 day hike and a few days rest in Kathmandu, I took a plane to Mumbai, back to India's metropole along the west coast with it's millions of inhabitants and home of the Bollywood film industry. It was here that I first witnessed what it means to live in the monsoon time on India. 6 days (nearly) constant rain, 24/7 wet feet, visit to Mumbai's biggest Slum - Dharavi, contrast visit to the rich parts of the city - Bandra, Colaba and Churchgate, day trips to Mumbai's green spots - Gorai Island, Elephanta Island and Sunjay Gandhi National Park, the adventure to take a train as well as watching a Bollywood movie - unforgettable memories for ALL the senses!

Via train i made my way then 1500km and 30hrs further (north-)east, to Varanasi, an ancient and holy City for Hindus. People come here to cremate their dead family members along the river Ganges, a process, where the soul leaves the human body and reincarnates according to ones Karma - an absolute spiritual place.

Currently I am in another train again, riding towards Agra, home of the Taj Mahal. My journey is soon coming to an end, on august 12 i will fly out from Delhi back home to Amsterdam - 4 month will have past by then, what an impressive time i had!

regards from the window-seat of a train,
Phil
